Beyond Behavior: Thriving with Autism at Home + School

3 Critical Approaches that Have a Powerful Impact on Meltdowns, Learning, and Demand Avoidance

with ALISHA GROGAN MOT, OTR/L

Every Autistic Child Deserves to Thrive

Even with the challenges that may face them every day, such as:

  • Managing big emotions
  • Learning and attention
  • Communication
  • Friendships and relationships
  • Sensory experiences
  • Daily routines
  • Flexibility and transitions
  • Independence

No two autistic children are the same. This workshop will show you how to use these 3 approaches for their strengths, challenges, and unique support needs.

The need is real.

78% of autistic children have at least one mental health diagnosis like anxiety or ADHD (Kerns et al, 2021.) As our understanding of autism evolves, so should the way we support autistic children at home, at school, and in therapy.

For years, much of autism support has focused on stopping “behaviors” that are stressful, disruptive, or difficult to understand, like:

  • Meltdowns
  • Aggression
  • Non-Compliance
  • Stimming
  • Poor eye contact

This has led many with autism to mask their real feelings, impulses, and coping strategies.

Mounting research and my experience over two decades as an OT point toward three core approaches that are often overlooked in treatment, but may dramatically reduce challenges and major stress points in the lives of autistic individuals and their families.

It’s time to look beyond behavior alone and towards powerful neuro-affirming strategies to help autistic children thrive.

This is more than a workshop.

It’s a framework packed with concrete strategies to immediately use with clarity and confidence to help your child with Autism, or the children you work with. It includes:
