Pediatric Feeding 101 - Your Kid's Table

Pediatric Feeding 101

Covering the basics of feeding from baby’s first bite to picky eating!

Wish you knew more about helping kids with feeding difficulties?

Whether you help kids in a classroom, in their home, or in a clinic, you are bound to come across kids that are struggling to eat. You may be the therapist or teacher assigned to help this child or you may be helping them with other challenges they face, either way, having some strategies to support their feeding would be extremely helpful, to say the least!

As professionals, we can feel desperate to help a child that isn’t eating well, or to teach good eating habits from the beginning because feeding difficulties are a tremendous stress for the family.

It can consume and control their lives.

But, it can be overwhelming and even scary to give the “wrong” advice because it could significantly delay progress, or even make eating worse.

Imagine what it would be like to have the knowledge and resources to help feeding difficulties improve.

When therapists and teachers learn new strategies and interventions, something wonderful happens: confidence. Suddenly, when you see the child (and family) struggling to eat, transition to table foods, or create a feeding schedule, you know confidently how to direct them.

This makes us feel good (and it should), that we are doing our job well (because we are).

Their are a lot of intensive feeding courses available, which are wonderful. But, it can be hard to find a complete resource that covers the basics of feeding.

Because it’s valuable to know and understand early feeding milestones and how to guide families through them.

It’s critical to lead parents into setting up structured mealtime routines so that children can have the best opportunity to learn to eat a variety of foods.

And, as a therapist or teacher, it’s totally necessary to have some strategies for picky eating in your back pocket.
